NDTV-Toyota in partnership with Swechha held the first ever Greenathon, a 24 hour clean-up drive for the Yamuna, at the Kudsia Ghat in New Delhi, where thousands of people engaged in a relay clean-up of the river banks.
The Yamuna, which originates in the Himalayas and winds its way past the Taj Mahal, accounts for more than 70 per cent of New Delhi's water supply. Yet it is one of the most endangered waterways in India.
It was our effort to bring the cause of the Yamuna back to the mind map of the citizens and the government of the nation and thereby develop a Green Workforce.
And yes - we hope we have been able to achieve what we aimed for.
SWECHHA - We for Change Foundation, is a movement - a consensus among people about the nature of society, its problems and possible ways to work towards a positive change.
The 24 hour relay cleanup on Kudsia Ghat which involved several activities like, film screenings of environmental films at the cleanup site, music concerts by bands like Parikrama, Mrigya, Soulmate, Menwhopause, Advaita, Blue Breakfast and Solar Punch, visits by important celebrities and eminent environmentalists, a photo exhibition of pictures on the Yamuna, Graffiti canvas to express ourselves and speak to the river among others, has been a success so far.
And THANK YOU for all the support! We hope this journey continues...
